Anyone Else Made Hybrid Gear Knob for 147?
Was wondering if anyone else had made a hybrid knob for their 147 TS?
Sure we all know that the gear change on a 147 goes sloppy after a while. Having replaced the selector cable and the infamous hats on top of the box the wife's 147 is still like stirring custard.
Getting a new selector and knob for a 147 seems very difficult and expensive, so I thought I'd make up a hybrid.
I bought a 156 JTS 5 speed lever and housing but the holes on the front for the cable to entre are different (147 larger). The 156 has the plastic serviceable ball joint in it thought.
So out came the hacksaw and cut the top off a spare 147 assembly I had to had.
Sawed it off, sanded / filed smooth and lined it up. No further cutting needed it sat nice and square where it wanted to sit, so drilled the three holes and bolted her on.
Yet to fit but wondering if anyone else has tried a similar 'stunt' and if it worked. It looks legit on my desk.
Hoping it works as labour time would be a bit of a ball ache if it didn't and I had to rip it down again but figured it has to be worth a go. Would be a £35 fix if it does rather than spending 3 times that on a new piece.
