Buying an Alfa 156 - will I spot the rust?
I may be looking at an Alfa 156 Sportwagon (2005) later in the week and am after a bit of advice please. It looked like an ideal car for me until I started reading some of the horror stories on here.
Is a visual inspection, possibly without jacking up the car, going to be enough to get a good idea whether the car has the usual issues with rusting floorpans? Common sense says walk away if there are signs of rust underneath or attempts to hide it with fresh underseal.
Moving to the inside, are there any good indicators of the car having a leak problem in its recent past? Any strategic points where I can pour in a bottle of water or get a hose on it to see if it's leaking now?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Gut feeling at the moment is that the car would be a big risk and it may be better to pass, no matter how loud the advert is shouting "buy me".
