Worth doing, I had a shudder a few month back at idle in a supermarket car park, switched off and then on all ok.
Couple of months later had a blowing noise very loud, was a split in the plastic manifold and with it the car would overboost at 3500rpm, under 3500rpm drove as normal.
Replaced with new manifold and was shown that 3x flaps gone from old one.
Had a mechanic friend fit a replacement turbo, checked with camera into head whilst manifold turbo was off and all looks good.
Turbo on and now car back to normal, can rev to 4500+ no overboost, no eratic idle no smoke.
Was cleaning old turbo with mr muscle to ease vnt rod, managed to free up rod but heard a rattle noise in the turbo unit so I shook it hard and a bent up flap fell out.
The old turbo fins are in perfect condition both sides, amazing also no play in shaft at all.
Been using the car 2 weeks since new turbo and manifold fitted plus oil/ filter change and it is running perfectly, a lucky escape this time.
Egr was deleted Autolusso a while back, the new manifold has flaps , my theory is if old one lasted 7 years with egr coking it up, the new one should last longer with a blanked egr, I will sell it in a year or so and buy another petrol Alfa.
