I'd like your advice please:
I've got a problem with the clutch. Suddenly started to drag, stopped and there was a noise like something loose in the bellhousing. Stopped and started the car and it went away - sounds like something fell off and was rattling around. Now it drags, judders on engagement and bites very low, but it will drive and once engaged drives perfectly, no noise, no slip, no driveline shunt. There were no rattles or anything before it happened and the guy I bought it off (more than a year ago unfortunately) told me that he'd fitted a new clutch and DMF, and it certainly drove as if it had a new clutch. So I'm guessing it's been put together wrong or one of the parts has failed.
It feels for all the world as if one of the fingers has broken off the release arm, but that seems unlikely. With the slave cylinder out it makes a kind of crunching feeling as the arm engages with the clutch. So my guess is either the release bearing or pressure plate have collapsed. Not ruling out the flywheel but it just doesn't feel right for that.
All very irritating, because I need to sell it to buy a smaller car which my wife will drive (she's scared of the power - I've ridden motorcycles with more than 140bhp!).
It's got to come to bits, and if I'm in the mood and it's not raining on Friday I might pull the gearbox off and see, but in the meantime:
- Anybody experienced similar, so that I can work out what the parts might cost and whether it's worth fixing, as I'm going to sell it anyway?
- Anybody feel like making me a reasonable offer for it as it stands, to save me the bother?
No idea really what it might be worth, so any ideas:
It's a 2004 facelift 156 veloce saloon in Nero Metallico with 141,000 miles on it and MoT until December (no advisories). Drives lovely (apart from the clutch...), always starts, great on fuel, uses no oil. A few little scratches and a light key scratch on the passenger side but it looks pretty good when it's clean.
I'd put it on the classifieds if they worked. There are a couple of bad pictures attached - if anyone's genuinely interested then send me a PM and I'll take some decent snaps. I'm near Machynlleth.
