156 2002 Variator oil seal
Could do with a little advice if possible. Decided this weekend to sort out the diesel noise by replacing the variator. The car has done 170k so timing belt, water pump and tensioners were done too.
As the variator/cam seals had been on for 170k I changed these too. Anyhow, the new variator works fine and I no longer have a diesel. But, it looks like under revs the variator oil seal is weeping, this is spraying a fine mist of oil over the pulley, cam cover and subsequently leaking everywhere. I can't see for definite that it is coming from here but the rear of the pulley is soaked in oil. What is also odd is the variator face (bit that the pulley mates to) is wet with oil. I have now taken everything off again and removed the seal, it looks fine, no marks, scrapes. The orifice/valley that the seal fits in also looks clean with no problem.
Rather than putting the old seal back and tempting fate I'm going to replace (again) but wondered if anyone else had had similar issues/problems?
