Removing Starter motor - any tips?
as part of a programme of work for this weekend (Replace CV Joint, look at gear selector bushings, general care and maintenance), I'm looking at removing the starter motor. The reason is that when it starts it gives a crunching noise. I'm presuming that the solenoid is sticking open, so I want to put it on the bench and clean it up.
I've looked at the manual to see the recommended procedure, and it involves removing the exhaust forward section from the manifold.
Now I hate the idea of doing this, I'm guaranteed to either shear a corroded bolt, or even if they come out, I'm sure I won't get it sealed gas-tight when it's replaced.
Has anybody else tackled this job, and have any tips on an easier way to remove it?
