Alfa 147 1.6 T.Spark - Motor Control System Failure
I purchased my 147 1.6 T.Spark Collezione Edition (2007) earlier in March with the engine management light prompt on the dashboard. Went through it's MOT a few days prior to me buying the car with the light on and when driven, seemed to drive beautifully. I read through the forums that people were talking about many reason's for the light to pop up such as crankshaft sensors, low voltage or loose battery connections etc..
Before Friday, the car had been driving perfectly fine with no problems and I was going to take the car in regardless next week to sort the light out. Started making my way to Portsmouth on the Friday evening and for the first time noticed when in 5th gear, the car would refuse to rev past 3500 with the foot down but had previously done this with ease just the week before. 80mph limit running smooth but unless I'm heading down a gradient, I'm not picking up anymore speed. On the drive back to London last night, I started to notice that it would have an intermittent affect on the lower gears but then seem fine.
I have literally no mechanical knowledge but I'm trying to learn!
I'm thinking this may be a crankshaft problem from what I've read but wanted to know if someone on here may have any ideas.
Oh and I installed an aftermarket radio into the car on that Friday, maybe the electricals had a play? Or I'm just overthinking? haha.
Lastly, I'm planning to get an ODB2 USB cable and the FiatECUScan software to get the codes for the problem; anywhere to get a cable for cheap and quick?
