156 SW Rear wiper motor

The rear wiper seems to have totally stopped working.

It started going very slowely, then stopped after about a quarter of a "wipe", but a nudge got it going again, Now it seems to have stopped altogether.

Is it likely to be the motor, or should I be looking anywhere else?
Is it an easy swap, and how much will a new one set me back??

It is probably the seal that is leaking water into the wiper spindle so it gets corroded.
A solution could be do disassemble the wiper unit and clean and grease the spindle.

If the spindle is corroded it can be difficult to get it out but it is less expensive compared to replacing the unit

A new wiper unit is quite expensive (80 - 100£)

I had this on my '02 156 last year. It was the motor.
I was getting some other work done by Veloces in North London at the time so I asked them if they could replace it. The replacement cost £75.

Something of a long shot, but I had similar problems with the rear wiper on my 145 - it's just possible it may be the same motor.

The fault was caused by grease from the gear drive getting onto the phospor-bronze electrical contact strips in the electrical box on the back of the motor. Cleaning it off got the motor working properly again.

As I said, a long shot, but worth a look before you spend any money.

Looks like I'll have to get the spanners out at the weekend!
