Thanks for the reply cragmaz69. Tracked my problem down to a bad connection on the battery (thick lead from starter). Took the fuse box apart and cleaned all contacts with a wire brush and sandpaper and covered in a skim of vaseline. Problem solved. Happy again. Starts every time now with no problem. Just keep telling myself that it really did need the new starter I spent the other day installing and i am not an idiot. Ah well, still have a spare starter if it ever does go . . Cheers again..
BTW the battery I have fitted was one rated at 68Ah / my original Alfa battery(by EXIDE) was 70.
