Very Lazy Fuel Gauge, Please Help!

Hi everyone

yet another query for my 156 99v 2.0 ts ...

my fuel gauge has never been fantastically accurate, but ive always put it down to either an alfa quirk or the fact that the cars is intermittently stood for short periods of unuse, making possibly a bit sticky or lazy.

however, as its in a period of regular use at the moment, i thought it appropriate to query it again as its worse than ever now.

if i put 30 of petrol in, from near enough empty, i get over half a tank register at the pump. but, just 80 miles later, once the gauge is inot the lower half, it is extremely slow to lift off the stop and put the low warning out.

once in this lower section, it just gets more and more lazy, and can take forever to put the light out even though you know you've got plenty left.

is this just as simple as a knackered sender unit, or anything more sinister?

if its the sender can you point me in the right area please?

cheers, shrew

I'd run a tank of shell V-power through it.

It cleaned mine a treat! Otherwise, it's the sender unit thats more than likely at fault.
