2.4 20v starts for 5 seconds then dies
2006 20v 156
The car will only fire briefly reaching a max of 700rpm then dies. The low pressure pump is giving good pressure and ive put a new fuel filter in. There are no error codes either.
Bought in as a non runner, aparently it just died and never restarted. I am reading the fault codes using a Foxwell 644 Pro and getting no error codes unless I disconnect something (i.e. MAF)
If i leave the ignition on for say 10 seconds, all lights go out on the dash, pre heater etc. if I then try and start it, it fires like its about to go, reaches a maximum of around 700rpm, then dies. I am seeing around 43000kPa on the fuel rail which is about 431bar or 21000 psi i beleive when it is lazily running for the few seconds.
It just seems then to "run out of fuel" and the pressure drops as it dies
I have had all the pipes off and checked fuel flow and i wouldnt normaly do this, but i cracked off the outlet pipe on the HP pump and cranked it and got a high jet of fine fuel, almost like a needle would deliver.
I havent done a leak off test yet (ive only got 4 coke bottles lol!) but my gut feeling is the HP pump is knackered and cant keep up with demand. I even tried using a hand primer to "pump" like fury between the fuel filter and the HP pump, but the rubber bulb expanded more than i could add by pumping!
Ive cleaned the EGR and MAP sensor, tried disconnecting the MAF but all I get is the error codes from them if i leave them disconnected
Sorry for the long winded explenation, but thought itbest to give what I have
