I would have to say that it is likely to be a harness problem. It is just too much of a coincidence that the only faulty parts of the control unit are those that all happen to go to the 1 lamp cluster. Usually, brakelights and the sort are all fed from a single feed to ensure that they are sychronous. If the offside light unti is working, and it is only the near side that is the problem it suggests that there is a problem with the vehicle harness/connector.
Indicators are usually fed by a different control module as they have to feed all 4 corners and ensure synchronicity between the front of the vehicle and the back. Because of this the electrical feeds may have a different routing in the harness to the other functions.
