My Bella blew her clutch on Monday night. Driving just round the corner from my house, changed up into 3rd and the pedal stayed down. Coasted to a stop then tried to pull it back up. Succeeded in getting the pedal back up but it was rock hard. RAC took me around to my local garage and the next day they phoned me back and said it was the clutch. They quoted me £680 in total saying it would be an 8 hour job. Anyone else had this done and if so how much were they charged. I'd love to know how much Alfa dealers charge if my independent charges £680 (roughly half the labour charge!!)

To put this in perspective. I've just had the following done.
Gearbox replaced with a 'known' second hand one (mine had had a bearing failure at some point in the past had been repared but not cleaned out properly and the subsequent gunk much like lapping/grinding paste had worn away one of the gear selector shafts and it's orifice in the gearbox housing )
New Driveshaft Pin/bolt/thingy
New Gear Selector Fork on 3rd Gear
Labour for above
Cost a little over £800 and the car feels completely different for it snickety snick gearshift
Nero Fuoco 147 Lusso - Bianco Nuvola 147 GTA - Carbonio Brera SV - Azzurro Le Mans GT 1600 Junior
My V6 will need a new clutch soon. Not slipping just no feel to it anymore and it bites at the very top of the pedal. Based on 6.5 hours labour and an OEM 3 piece clutch kit I have been quoted £450 fitted. What do you think?
That sounds about right lepopester, when the pedal stays down thats either due to a cylinder failure and the hydraulics not operating properly or something in the clutch mechanism physically breaking, not just being excessively worn. What was replaced in the end then? Just a new dual mass flywheel, or new clutch as well?
In the end I had a new clutch and the dual Mass flywheel replaced. The job lot. Now all I have to get sorted is the "Master control Failure" light that keeps coming on! The mechanic plugged it in and it came up with Brake switch failure and Turbo not coming up to full boost. He is hoping if I get the Brake Switch replaced it might solve all the problems. I hope that too or it could be a new turbo.
