Well, here's something to bear in mind if buying an extended warranty - always read ALL the terms and conditions before parting with cash, just like AlfaLincs says (obvious really, especially in hind sight).
Apparently, in our case, it's not the previous service history thats the problem. Instead, the warantee company are pointing out a clause in the tiny wee print that says "where the date of the last service is unknown, the new owner will undertake to have the vehicle serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications before 6 months, or 6,000 miles whichever is the sooner" (or words to that effect). Bottom line - they aint gonna pay up, because even though its only 5K miles since the warrantee was purchased, the time limit ran out just two $%^&*%ing weeks ago!!!!.
So, if you get a warantee, make sure you can prove the vehicle service history BEFORE breaking it, and get it serviced ASAP!!
