156 2.0 TS power steering pump nightmare!

Experienced my next Alfa headache after engine removal that won't go out the top, no timing marks etc, the stupid power steering pump hose that screws in to the power steering pump. I was told it was difficult to get in but to me it seemed nigh on impossible, even with the PS reservoir removed just couldn't get it threaded. Cross threaded it and had to repair the threads on the hose and inside the PS Pump. Tried again, no joy. All in all about three hours over several nights trying to thread the darn thing so I decided to bite the bullet and remove the pump (inlet manifold partial removal, great)and hose to see if I could thread it on the bench. Guess what, threads instantly on the bench. My lump hammer was very tempting at that point. I love cars but hate them when things don't go my way. Hope it doesn't leak when back on the car. Hope it's worth it after all this work as I haven't actually driven the thing since I bought it as the slave cylinder was knackered.
