I would agree with ZF.
I would think it was a lubrication problem together with poor hardening process at the time of the manufacturing.
I had a similar problem on another engine (Ford). The oil I guessed at the time wasn't doing its job and once the cam lobes started to wear it soon got to the point that that the cam shafts had to be replaced.
I do not really believe in using an engine flushing oil, but in this case I would use it and then with the new oil change, initially run it for about 1,000 to 3,000 miles before changing it again getting back to the normal replacement period. Keep the level towards maximum at all times and use the correct oil specification.
