Cold Start problem
My 2002 147 1.6 has started giving problems when trying to start it in the cold. I have searched and read the previous forum messages similar to problem and have checked all the items that have been suggested so far. Actually , I have not checked it, my "capable" local Alfa agent has been trying to find the cause over the last two weeks by replacing a part every day and retesting the car the next morning.
The symtoms are as follows:
First attemp at staing it is met by a few gurgling noises and misfires and the engine then dies promptly. On the second attempt the idling is poor with lots of misfiring / fuel starvation, attempts to give it extra petrol does not work very well. After 10 seconds it dies again. On the third try, after some of the same hassles, it eventualy breaks through the 2000rpm mark and then seems to be OK As long as I do not have to restart the car again within a minute. As soon as it is warmed a little the problem is gone.
The Alfa dealer ship has checked the following by replacing the items:
fuel pressure test
software analysis with Examiner shows no problems
mas air flow meter
reset idle parameter
Unfortunately they have not tested or replaced the temperature sender yet. This seems like logical item to check, but somehow these guys have not bothered with it yet.
Can anyone who has had a similar problem please give me some suggestions on where to look for the problem?
