156 1.9 jtd 16v starting problems fuel or wiring??!
I'm experiencing starting problems. Usually starts after a couple of goes from cold but is worse when warm. I recently replaced the fuel filter and it fixed it. Started first turn of key every time for a day or so.... Then the problem returned. As an experiment I drained the filter at the weekend and refitted. (no water in filter) It started fine again for a day or so but now it's being a pig again! Seal on filter is good. As an aside I bought the car as a non starter (no power to fuel pump) as a temp fix I powered it from the aux socket in boot. So, is the fuel filter a red herring and it's a wiring issue? Disconnecting the pump pulls the loom so wondering if it moves the crank sensor wires? That sensor would result in lack of power to pump if not working. ... but is it close enough to the filter that moving the filter wires would result in the symptoms and 'cure'? Any help appreciated.
