2.0 ts temp

hi all,

just a quick one, as i've only had the 156 a week now, i've got a couple of niggly points i need to clear up!!

1) ive got a rattly noise from the cam on over-run, but also some diesel noise on tick over so i have put this down to a worn variator, ill put this to the dealer and try and get it done under warranty.

2) the temp gauge seems to vary a lot, from just above 50 at a constant speed, to well over 90 when i stop in traffic.
is it normally a very fluctual engine or do i possibly have a thermostat issue??

cheers in advance guys!!

Re: 2.0 ts temp

Once the engine heats up your temperature gauge should sit at between 85 and 90. Mine will go above 90 in traffic but I think my rad is on the way out.

Re: 2.0 ts temp

Welcome to the AO site ....

1) try an oil change. When the oil gets thin, the variator starts to rattle if it is worn. New oil may temporarily quieten it down. Changing the variator involves a cambelt change, so start saving. What is you cars mileage and when was the last cambelt change ... every 36000miles now!!!

2) 50 at constant speed is too low, so your thermostat will be stuck open. Change it. You can find instructions in this forum with a search or on my website. Also check the condition of the rad as their life is around 5 years. You will find the gauge moves more that other cars as it shows the "actual" temp +/- Alfa's usual gauge inaccuracy.

cheers, Gary
