Alfa servicing in or near the Cotswolds

I'm new to the forum and fairly new to ALfa ownership. I bought a 53 plate 156 at Christmas and although the car looks wonderful parked outside my house I've had a few headaches with regards to reliability (of course you have, you bought an Alfa I hear you say....)

For the third time the dreaded "MOTOR SYSTEM FAILURE" message has appeared. The first time it was just a sensor, still 100 for the part though, second time it was a coil pack. Having owned mainly older VW's in the past I have been able to do a great deal of work on them myself, that is obviously not the case with my newly aquired problems.

My car is also due its 60k service with cam belt change and I was wondering if anyone new of a reputable, affordable garage reasonably close to Bourton-on-the-water. I am in between Oxford and Cheltenham and either would suit. I'd appreciate any advice.

NJS in Pershore - give Neil a ring: 01386 555523. Highly recommended - he's looked after my last three Alfas, including the GTA.

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if NJS in Pershore would still be your recommendation, I work near Tewkesbury so its not bad for me at all.

Secondly, I have just bought a 56 plate, 1.9 GT it has done 34,000 and is just coming up for its 4th service. The guy I'm buying it from is paying for this, as part of the sale.

Having read about the timing belt issues, do you think it would be worth it being done now? Also would it be cheaper to have it done as part of a service, or are the two totally separate and so not cheaper at all?

I'm collecting it tomorrow and can't wait, I think they are stunning cars

I'd recommend you have the cambelt kit replaced along with the water pump on that engine, it's all too common for the pumps to fail soon after the belt change and I see that all too often.

Another recommendation for NJS in Pershore from me.
They can provide a courtesy car (bright yellow Panda if you're lucky) and are v knowledgeable on all Alfas. trust them with my GT and the wife's 156.
