Hmmm GT Front Side Light Glitch

Hi there folks,

So the front (passenger-side) side light went, and I got a warning on the dashboard.

I have replaced the bulb without (too much) problem. However, I have encountered a bizarre electronic glitch which baffles me, and I wanted to try and source on here to see if anyone had any experience of similar problems. Just to clarify, I've got to the light no problem in spite of classic Alfa awkwardness, and replaced with a new correct bulb.

However, when I reinstated the bulb housing stick back in the headlight casing and turned it on, the bulb did not light up and I got the same warning on the dashboard.

Now here's the weird bit... When I took the stick with the new bulb out of the headlight casing again, and tried turning the light on it worked fine! As soon as you move the working bulb from out loose, to inside the casing, the light stops working and you get the warning.

Can anyone please shed any light on this issue as it's driving me crazy!

Other things to note are:
- the battery and alternator are both reasonably new and not faulty
- model is 2004 Alfa GT 2.0 JTS

Thanks very much.

Loose cable.. Gotta be... Or filament hanging in the wrong direction?

Try jiggling the wires all around with it turned on and seeing if it lights up!

That's what I assume, but I can't work it out at all. The connection at the bulb looks fine and the insulation is in good nic. Can't get at the other end of the wire though to inspect, not sure where it leads.

Another thing I've noticed which may or may not be related is that all electrics (headlights front/rear, dashboard, internal lighting, everything) have a slight flicker to them, which is most noticable when the car is started up cold.
