Performance of the 156 V6
Just nipped out for a quick drive as the missus had gone to bed and I was getting lonely, and as you all know loneliness is easily rectified by a drive in an Alfa, lol.
Now, I nipped up to the local Mall via the good old M5 and once she was warmed up gave it a nice quick blast up to 120MPH (KPH if the old bill are reading!) before the M5 decided that for no apparent reason it should be a 50 zone. At 10.30PM, with no one on the road, and no road works. Go figure.
Anyway, as I was on my way back I decided to swing by a local stretch of quiet straight road and perform to the best of my ability a quick 0-60 test. Now then, using the Sat Nav as a guide for speed, and the CD player as a guide to second's, I went for it.
Now, I am almost certain I clocked a 0-60 time of sub 7 seconds.
However, all the forums / sites / hand book's claim a 0-60 time of 7.3, not that 0.4th of a second is exactly thunderous amounts of time, but if the 156 V6's are as fast as a Supra Non Turbo, thats pretty bloody good isn't it???
Am I right in thinking then that you CAN get a faster 0-60 time in a completely stock 156 V6 than what the book's / sites tell you? Or was my Sat Nav and Stereo Display working against me?
Same goes for top speed, have any V6'ers out there clocked faster top speeds (According to Sat Navs etc, as speedo's are out by a fair bit at 140mph+!) than the 143MPH Alfa Romeo claim on a completely stock car???
I think one of the main problems with the 156 V6 is that you can be doing 130MPH, or 60MPH and the ride quality is the same. (If you can call it a problem!) So you never really feel you're going as fast as you are, until you start seeing cars on the motorway doing what appears to be 30MPH, but in reality; It aint them whats going slow... lol.
My friend has a 1989 GTi Golf, and although it is bloody quick, it takes quite a long time to get to its top speed of 130MPH, and when you're doing that speed in it 'boy do you know that you're doing that speed in it, vibrates and shakes to hell and back. Whereas the Alfa is more of a refined cruise missile, that kicks out a fantastic soundtrack of a burbling V6 whilst taking you to 130MPH + without you even realizing it.
The amount of times I've looked down and found myself doing 120MPH and thought 'Christ! I need to slow down!'. Thats the main thing I'll have to get used to: It's sheer speed!
Anyway, getting back on track, if anyone has had their 156 V6's faster (Or even slower!) than Alfa claim, let me know as I'm dying to find out what other owners have accomplished.
