battery drain alfa 147 jtd 2004

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Alfa 147 jtd 2004. Basically the battery seems to go flat every 10 days or so! Ive had a new battery fitted and alternator checked but problem still there! I make sure radio, climate control turned off at night and have even left car unlocked without alarm on but still the same! Garage has had car sat with voltmeter on battery to see if anything draining while car off but nothing seems to be draining?? I use the car every day so you would think battery would be charging but every 10 days its flat and obviously wont start, very frustrating, any ideas please!!

Check that your side lights or brake lights are not faintly on(its a usual body computer fault)

Seems like an intermittent fault in the loom somewhere. Or it could well be a alternator blip. I know you've had it checked but I would look for a replacement. Try and look a reconditioned rather than an aftermarket one, as IME, electrical components should be kept original. And a recon with a warranty is every bit as good as a non-original... you know it was made for the car.

How many miles do you drive every day?

thanks for the replies, i was thinking alternator but dismissed it as the garage told me it was charging fine, i drive about 8 miles a day although having thought maybe the low miles wasnt helping i have been making sure i give the car a a bit of a run but problem still there, regarding the body computer fault i have heard this mentioned before, is this a big job? i am no mechanic!

Gus ( alfatune) at the top of the page is the expert when it comes to body computers. Drop him a pm or give him a ring tomorrow he'll talk you through the options.

You could measure the battery drain using an amp meter, and if you do indeed see that there is a battery drain, pull the fuses 1 by 1 to see what is causing it.....

Take a look at the offside tail lights next time its nice and dark. You may well see a very faint glow. Thats the result of a body computer fault which unfortunately means a new body computer. I had a loan car with this issue, I used to just unplug the rear light cluster each evening to make sure it would start the next morning! When I took the car back the guy said he knew about the problem and had simply fitted a bigger battery to cope with the constant drain.
