156 Spare key / replacement?

Just got my 2002 Sportwagon last night from the dealer and all good except that it only came with 1 key (assumption is the mother of all F's... i should have checked before i signed the documents... grrr). Am trying to see if the dealer will cover this but their attitude so far is not promising..

so now I need to get a replacement flicky key fob- alfa have quoted me £160... not the kind of money i was expecting to pay within 24hrs of collecting the car..

I have seen a few 2nd hand keyfobs on ebay going cheap so I was wondering if I buy one of those is it as simple as getting that 2nd hand fob 'key part' replaced (and would a normal key cutting shop be able to do that?) and then getting the radio signal coded to my car (any suggestions on who can do that?)

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost or is it not worth the effort?

Re: 156 Spare key / replacement?

If you want two fully functional keys, pay the £160 and put it down to experience.

Shop around though.
Any Alfa dealer get get the key.
Try a few Alfa specialists in your area for a better price too.

Re: 156 Spare key / replacement?

i would try the dealer that you purchased the car from...the natural assumption is that a vehicle should come with two keys...(my assumption anyway) and thus it would be a reasonable expection to purchase a car with two keys...tell them that you feel a little let down and see whether they will pay the cost or least make a contribution...

worth a try anyway...

Re: 156 Spare key / replacement?

The cheapest i have heard of recently was £140. It seems to depend on the mood the dealer is in! Even if you have no joy getting it free from your dealer, at least you may get it at cost with an argument.
Beware you don`t get caught by the additional charge of coding the car to accept the new key remote. Make sure the price you get includes this.
For the least hassle and best comeback I suggest that the dealer the car came from is the best bet, rather than finding somewhere else.

Don`t buy off ebay for so many reasons I can`t bring myself to write them all out. Mainly, it just won`t ever work properly with your car.
