The code shouldn’t be written on the radio – sort of defeats the point really – but I suppose you might be lucky. I’ve never heard of the data plate – my radio code is on a card called the Audio/Navigation System Passport – I presume you didn’t get this with the car?
If it’s a UK car, there’s a good chance Alfa UK have got the code on their database, so you could always try them.
If not, try one of the many code-cracking companies. I believe some can sell you the code on-line if you give them the radio’s serial number (this is on the side of the unit so you need to remove it). Again, this seems to defeat the point …
