Noisy 156 LHS Suspenion
My noisy LHS issue remains
Despite the LHS upper & lower wishbones changes late last year. Despite the springs/dampers being changed (4 weeks ago). Despite the LHS ARB drop link being changed last Friday I still have one hell of a clatter from the LHS.
The Alfa Specialist in Westbury Wiltshire, aware of the noise issue changed on the the 8th of June 2007 the LHS ARB drop link and this was was found to be "notchy" when removed. By this I mean it was not smooth in operation as the new replacement. I thought this was the end of my troubles, as previously when coming to a stop or pulling away I heard a kind of pinging sound as though something was releasing, and this could be physically felt in the LHS spring.
I drove the car away from the Alfa Specialist really believing that the problem had been cured, at least that's how it appeared to me when initially driving the car around a few roads on the Trading Estate. However, later that day when driving home from work I noticed a real clatter of a noise, particularly when going over uneven surfaces. Something sounds loose to me.
The noise is now much worse that before the change of link and I think that the very stiff link operation had to some extent masked the origin of the awful noise I now hear.
Today I experimented by continually driving the left wheel up onto a 2" curb stone and then dropping back and I have proven the noise only comes from the left front of the car. New springs/dampers, new wishbones, new drop link. What else do I have to do?
At least the noise is far more obvious so I hope someone can help on this fault as so far no one seems to be able to identify the source of the problem. I am so dissatisfied with my 156 that I would like to get rid of it but who is going to buy it with this awful noise?
If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
