147 - Tyre Pressure

Went to check my tyre pressures today for the first since I bought the car 3 weeks ago (local garage pressure checker has been out of action). The passenger-side tyres were 28/29 psi, the driver-side tyres were 21/22 psi! Have I done the tyres / car any long-term damage by driving on such underinflated tyres?

Thanks in advance

Re: 147 - Tyre Pressure

It's unlikely unless you been doing a lot of miles with continuous high-speed driving or vigorous cornering.

The two problems most likely would be heat generated in the side-walls of the tyre (causing cracking) and uneven wear due to the contact-patch area being the wrong shape. Keep an eye on the tyre condition for a few months but you will probably be OK IMHO.

If you have 17" Sportivo alloys, get used to having to pump them up every week.

Re: 147 - Tyre Pressure

Buy a footpump and a pressure gauge too.

You want cold pressure, which you won't have if you have just driven to the garage.

32psi minimum by the way.
