I have already read the other threads before posting this.
I have a 2007 model Alfa GT JTDm 6 speed manual, had the usual 50mph shake so repacked the inner passenger drive shaft joint and was fine for about a month (3000 miles)
Then the shake came back and couldn't find time to fix as spend my whole life commuting, got my spare car all legal so then took the GT off the road and the inner joint was now shot.
Bought a brand new drive shaft complete as found a really good special offer.
Managed to undo the hub nut with a ground down 36mm socket and a 3/4" Snap-on breaker bar and pop the bottom ball joint.
Got the old shaft out but I cannot get the inner cup out!!
I have tried the twisted rope method or rather I did until the twin 10mm poly-prop ropes snapped, I tried a small jemmy bar behind the cup, no luck.
Tried the twisted rope method but using 4 ton towing cable, again the twin cables broke before the cup came free, that was at the limits of my physical strength winching (and im pretty strong)
I tried with a 4 foot jemmy bar that I managed to get behind the cup but even with me and my dad swinging on it still the cup is staying put, any more force will break either the gearbox casing or the engine mount.
Bought a gear puller kit and a 5lb slide hammer, tried this as although less force I thought if I pushed in a bit then slammed it out maybe the clip would give and the cup would come free but no it has stayed put
So any other ideas for getting it free, I am reluctant to try heat as part of the gearbox is plastic.
I really need this fixed as car cannot be moved easily and I'm using a 26 year old VW for commuting over 3000 miles a month!
