156 - A/C needs regassing!

Hi I'm Luque, I'm originally from Glasgow and have been living in Knutsford, Cheshire for 24 years! I've been driving a 156 for the last 4 - should really have changed it by now but it's a great car and I can't really afford anything newer right now that ticks all the right boxes. The A/C has become pretty ineffective over the last couple of weeks and my local mechanic has told me that I have to find a roving regasser!
I just wondered if anyone has had a similar problem and could advise; obviously contacts for service in Cheshire would be ideal.

Welcome to AO. There's lots on a/c here, I've been doing my bit to overload the server on this topic alone. If the gas has escaped its not just taken a holiday, it's gone for a reason! Available in a bottle from Haphudds but best to be sure there isnt' a leak before.

What Wrenched said. In spite of the general consensus against using them, I tried topping up, with the Halfrauds canister/gauge kit, worked fine. OK, we know this will be illegal in the future,(so will sex I reckon) but make sure there are no leaks evident. It will soon indicate if it is not sealed, as Wrenched said before, it will be heard hissing out! More pollution.:

Re: 156 - A/C needs regassing!

Thanks Glenn, Thought I had solved it - Kwikfit do A/C regassing/servicing for £44.95 - but after having it done on Sunday a.m. it's still not cooling sufficiently - full of gas, compressor working etc. but can't cope with the recent temperatures. Only good news is they didn't charge me! Will now contact coolmyride.co.uk and let you know! Best wishes. Luque
