Blower switch resistor module - where+self repair?

The 3 position fan switch only works on #2 and #3. Common failure. Can anyone tell me where to find it?, being I want to spend as little time under the dash as possible in this weather. Also the replacement part being bit pricey, has anyone fixed one themselves? I'm sure it's a just a burnt power resistor. I've done such a repair on other cars for almost no money, but that was long ago, and I know things have changed!

Not certain on left-hand drive models - I presume its mirror image of RHD - in which case its fitted just alongside the fan blower, towards the centre console. You'll see two sets of wires going into it. It is held in by two screws, usually a stupid size like 5.5mm head.....There are two types of resistor - the one for air-con cars is readily available, but the one for non-air-con can be hard to source.
