Re: Wiper issues on a 147
So it seems therefore that the failure is either a question of;
1) batch or process variation i.e. a non-repetetive manufacturing process. (Testing a design to 150000000 cycles doesn't guarantee against variation and failure) or,
2) their standard system performs differently on 147s due to something inherent to the car design which increases the loading on the wiper arm connections, for example, the curvature of the windscreen, mounting position on the bodywork, aerodynamics over the wipers etc etc etc.
It would be interesting to do a straw poll of the affected people on AO in order to see how long it takes for this part to fail.
Even so, short of just avoiding the inconvenience of the failure when you are driving in the rain or a long way from home, it doesn't strike me as something you can delay even by doing a bit of extra preventative maintenance. It's not even something you can check easily or replace a cheap part to stave off complete failure!
The only option is to replace the whole linkage part in advance of failure, as you might with a Cam Belt. Bit extreme though.
