Looky Looky Poor 4th Gear Selection (excessive effort required)

Just spent 3 hours under the bonnet and front wing trying to improve a very stiff 4th gear after removing both selector cables and finding no problems. I unscrewed the 3rd-4th selector detent which did not improve anything. After dropping out the oil and finding nothing to worry about on the plugs I removed the gearbox end plate exposing what appeared to be reverse gear synchromesh and more importantly the end of the selector rods and found after cleaning a small amount of debris from the bottom of the casing it was clear to see that some debris had beem dragged under the 3rd-4th gear selector and damaged the aluminium casing. With a small brake cylinder hone and some careful drilling the housing was cleaned up and 4th gear is back to normal.

The casing beeing the bearing surface for the selector rods. Good stuff, the extra clearance via the honing should be a long term solution. Great.:

If anyone else has a go at this then it would be nice if you could take some pictures if possible.
