Rear wiper issue

I seemnto be having problems with my rear wiper

If i switch it on, it goes completely the opposite way as it should but then on the return, i stopped half way and all i can hear is the spinning and grinding of the motor.

Anyone able to advise what this is?

Do you mean the wiper moves on to the bodywork, not up the screen?

If this is a new phenomenon and the wiper previously worked okay, then there are only two possibilities. The wiper has moved on the spindle of the motor and is moving strangely, or something mechanical has failed inside the motor.

As the wiper is an easier fix, un clip the wiper arm base, un bolt the arm and remove it. Then wrap a piece of duct tape around the motor stub. Draw a line on it and watch the movement of the stub. It should turn half a turn and then return to its start position.

If it does, reattach the arm securely.

If it didn't, or the motor still makes odd noises, but a new motor and install it to fix your issues.

Usual problem of the rear wiper is them seizing, but if yours has now stopped part-way through its return sweep, you do need to check if its just the arm or the motor, as suggested above. It would be unusual for the arm to come loose in mid-sweep, but its possible.

Replacing the motor isn't a huge job - think I've got a few if you need them.
