N/S/F Dashboard Squeak / Knock / poor steering
I'm after some experienced advice on a little issue i'm having with the GT. Having re-done all the suspension over the last few months - with Genuine Alfa upper arms, lower arms, droplinks, poly arb bushes, alfa strut tops, bilstein / Eibach kit etc - I have developed a strange knock/ squeaking noise.
One thing to bear in mind is that the car has since been in for the clutch doing; so a lot of the suspension has been in bits on the side that is making the noise. Another thing to bear in mind is that i hit a rather nasty bump in the road on a recent Scotland trip, with the N/S/F wheel.
So, the symptoms;
Squeak from the n/s/f 'dashboard' area when on and off the throttle.
Knocking noise when setting off-more so when cold and just out the garage over un-even surfaces at low speeds.
Knocking when the wheels start to lose traction
Steering wander / torque steer - it just doesn't feel as 'hooked up' as before.
I was thinking drop-link at first, but it really does sound to be coming from the dashboard area?! Could be a gearbox mount at that side? Given that the box has been off for the clutch to get done?
Also, there are 'strike marks' on the upper arm where the upper ball joint has been separated to get the gearbox out......possible ball joint damage?
The car is in with my mechanic at the moment. Nothing is staring him in the face at the moment with it, so i wanted to see what advice you guys can offer to help get to the bottom of it.
From what i have read, it sounds very 'upper wishbone' like. Everything is new but granted, a pot-hole can cause some wear to a component no matter how new it is.
What would you guys think given the symptoms? Would a droplink noise travel up to the dashboard area? When on and off the power, it makes a 'squeeeeak squeak squeak' noise.
Cheers for any advice you guys can offer!
