the fact that the diesel is hands down the best overall choice is down to the **** poor choices available other than the V6 in the GT..
I have had the JTS its troublesome and way down on the 165bhp claimed so..you have to rev the backside out of it to get any real power so the mpg is shocking, I reckon I got 30-35 being careful..that is a ridiculous set of figures for a manual 2l putting out about 140bhp, same for the 1.8 TS, great engine but underpowered for the GT..
the V6 well yes ,of course but the cost of running one every day? when you include road tax, fuel and servicing its a considerable % of anyones salary.
the diesel...gives its claimed 150bhp and feels like morre due to the grin inducing torque.
can be mapped to 210..although a sensible map of 175 would be more than enough and about right for the clutch.
it does up to 700 miles a tank from some reports on here, making it a ''true GT''.
for a diesel it sounds ok, I have heard much much worse from other manufacturers and I suspect with the right exhasut could be made to sound dare i say it nice..
oh and BTW the jts can sound like a diesel if the variator is banjaxed which it pretty much is after 50k...costing another £150 on top of cambelt to replace, oh and balancer belt..and spark plugs etc ect..
and that is coming from someone who ent down the ''alfa must be a petrol route''
the diesel is sooo much better, fact, period, done, game over and I have owned both.
and driven the V6....(had to be dragged away by wife and bank manager)...
