I'm also 7 or 8 years in.....with my current car (my 3rd 156) having been mind for about 6 yrs this coming summer.
It's in need of a bit of work now:
new rad - booked in on Tuesday
cam belt sometime in the spring
back silencer - maybe other exhaust parts too
Bodywork needs some tidying
Want to get underneath and check everything is still rust-free
probably more - a service at least
It's almost 11yrs old, and I'm not too bothered about it being spotless. I'm more bothered about adding to the 124k miles on a slow and steady basis (about 8k a year - but about to reduce markedly I expect, as my daily commute is about to cease).
In some ways I've been feeling like we're at a crossroads. Belt cost. Lots of faffing required. £300 road tax. 124k miles on original clutch and engine - sooner or later summat is gonna go wrong etc. But it's not let me down in 5 years, still looks nice when cleaned, offers a lot of fun when pushing on, and takes the family and dog on holiday every year without a peep.
Unless anything drastic happens I'm feeling like we're 'involved' and I'd love to keep it for another 5 years or so, by which time I reckon 150k is probs realistic. I'm writing this, I think, in order to persuade myself to ante up the cash now, and keep on running....
