Cry Like A Baby 1.8 T-spark 156 help please!

Hi all,

My first post Iand along one sorry!) and i come seeking desperate help! I bought my alfa 156 in Feburary and enjoyed a couple of months of trouble free motoring and then the fun began.

When I bought the car it was nearly due a service so I treated her to a full once over and everything was fine. Then a couple of months later I noticed the orange engine management came on then went off again, thought no more about it. Then around a week later it came on again, then went off and this sequence carried on for a couple of weeks with the light being on for no more than an hour or so a week but then this stopped. Then a few weeks later the oil light flashed up (which i thought was strange as it had only been service a couple of months previous) but checked the oil and hey presto it was running low. So topped the oil back up and thought no more of it. At this point I started to notice that the car was starting to run really really hot, to the point where the temp guage warning light would come on if stood in traffic for more than 20-30 minutes on the way home from work.

So decided to go get it looked at (which was arranged for a couple of weeks later) in the meantime i the oil light came on TWICE! and I ended up putting the 5l of oil in her a week to keep her running. (of course bearing in mind she wasn't leaking oil nor blowing smoke!)

I then noticed on closer inspection that the cooling fan wasnt coming on when the engine was getting hot which i figured would be part of the problem.

Then it all went wrong one night one the way home from work the engine had been running fine and then it just cut out and rolled to a stop. The oil & battery lights lit up on the dash but not the engine management light (all 3 would normally be lit while just the electrics are on) and the car would turn over but not fire. So after a tow home i had a local mechanic have a quick look over the car but without being an alfa specialist could only suggest the the cats had became blocked with all the oil buring off (well it had to be going somewhere) so the engine management had kicked in to protect the engine?

Please please please if anyone can help or make any recommendations on where i can get this fixed i'll be forever grateful its killing me having the car sat there not doing anything!

Have you sorted this? Sorry for the late reply....need your location to advise a garage.
