Alfa 2.0 TS Sportwagon Veloce Actuator

Hi everyone. Just found this forum so I thought I better join up, especially as I have bought a sportwagon! Its a selespeed 2.0 TS Veloce.

It needs work, the steering rack seal is leaking all out the driver side. There is a suspected actuator problem (common from what I have been reading on here!). Seems like selespeeds have a bad name, shame as even though its not running perfect it seems quite nippy and im into the paddle shift! It has had a new gearbox, thrust bearing, clutch, etc all done by alfa romeo. After this the actuator started leaking (so the previous owner tells me). My mate has a 2.5 in his yard so I can help myself to cheap parts when I want.

Im in two minds on what to do. My mate has this 2.5 V6 24V engine, with gearbox, everything is still in the car but its a saloon. Im not sure if I can put the engine and box into my sportwagon but he will let me have this and whatever else I need for a good price, shame he is not breaking a 2.0 selespeed!

Has anyone put a 2.5 V6 into a sportwagon? I know alfa made one, but can I take out the selespeed and 2.0 TS engine and put this 2.5 v6 in there instead - Just incase this actuator leak has more to it.

I havent looked over it yet, there is fluid leaking from the resivoir as well, overflow pipe! I cant see how the fluid is supposed to just leak out in the engine bay! Surley it attaches some where! Anyone know?

As for this actuator whats the best place to start? Not even found it yet (hidden on the gearbox somewhere! Is there any simple faults that could be the cause, split pipes, etc? I have ordered myself a Workshop CD from ebay, to see what alfa have in front of them. Im wondering as the leak only started after alfa romeo fitted the new gearbox. Is there a gasket (seal) that sits between the actuator and gearbox.

If anyone can tell me if the steering rack on a 2.5 v6 saloon is the same as the 2.0 TS sportwagon it would be handy as I may just swap the whole thing. They are both 2001 cars.

If you need spares for there alfa let me know, my mate has a black one for spares. Some panels are damaged, but everything else is perfect and only done 60k miles!

Good luck everyone. If I get a reply to this essay then my thanks in advance!

Re: Alfa 2.0 TS Sportwagon Veloce Actuator

Thanks Mike, This seems like the place I will get some help. I found a guy in Chadell Heath, Essex, called Dave. He is an alfa specialist so he will be having my car for servicing/repairs. Any members from around the area that use this mechanic let me know how it went. Seems resonable and good at what he does, recommended by one of my mates. The garage is based on kemp road industrial estate in Dagenham/chadwell heath.

Thanks, Dan.

PS mike, bet your happy with that result against Man U! Well done!
