Stiff gear change and low biting point

In the last few weeks I've noticed that putting my GT into reverse is becoming a real struggle. I have to go into first then reverse. This is in the mornings when the cars cold, but I am finding that when it's warm my gear changes are a lot looser and also the biting point on my clutch is now very low and the pedal goes right to the floor ( which it never used to ) I've been told that the stiffness of the reverse gear could just be old oil in the gear box but now the clutch is lower I'm worried it could be something more serious. Any ideas?? My local garage wants to charge 60 just to look at it...

check the brake fluid level and when it was last changed. then check the condition of the slave cylinder and maybe try bleeding it. change the gearbox oil.

I changed the oil in my gearbox and it made a difference especially in colder weather.
