I had fun and games with this last night, thanks for everyone who has posted here though as the info was very useful.
Armed with a vanity mirror, out I went to the car, but my first mistake was to snap off the little lever attached to the 'wand'....d'oh. Brute force and ignorance has a lot to answer for.
Much messing around and cursing ensued, finally I managed to withdraw the flippin thing using a pair of slim pliers and a screwdriver as a lever..I admit I did have to tug on the wires a bit too, very bad practice but needs must!
Bulb was 5 pounds from Halfrauds, what a rip off.
I had visions of having to face the embarrassment of taking my car to the garage to change the bulb at one point.
My previous Fiat Stilo needed a fog light bulb once and the whole front including the wing, valance and grille had to come off.
Anyway at least the car doesn't chime a warning at me anymore when I turn the key
