As your car is listed as an Impreza are you sure you came to the right place?
There are many possible reasons but an frequent one is the crank sensor. When it starts to fail the car will run ok when cold when it has warmed up it just stops. If your car works fine when it is cold again then this is the the place to check. Sensors are cheap enough, if a little fiddly to fit.
i have had the car for about a month the person i bough *** off claimed he had the belt changed less than a month before i got it and he put that on the receipt. Do i have a leg to stand on ?
its a small time car sales person operating as a company
But i must say there does not seem to be any lights that have come on on the dash?
You won't get any lights to indicate a cambelt failure.
However, because the cam sensor will be out of phase with the crank sensor, that will produce an error and probably bring on the engine warning light.
If the aux belt also gets ripped off then the battery light will also be on.
Have a word with your local Trading Standards Office. They will be able to clear it up .... I've heard a threatening letter from a solicitor can help and going to the local newspapers .... the bad press would kill his business.
Spoke to my local trading standards office and they say I have a case, I need to send off a registered letter giving the trader 7 days to either repair or re-imburse me and can even get costs of travel tickets if it goes to court.
Thing is, if he stated he changed the cam belt, he probably has. What might have happened is that the tensioner has failed, destroying the belt. If he didn't say he changed the tensioner's, I'm not sure where you will stand then.
