I am looking for a few ideas on what course of action to take to eliminate a droning noise coming from the front of my 2002 2.4 jtd s/w.
the noise is there all the time that the wheels are turning.
Applying the brakes, turning the steering wheel, free-wheeling out of gear, dipping the clutch, accelerating, none of these make any difference to the noise.
It sounds rather like an old ford rear wheel drive axle diff whining, or a wheel bearing. I have jacked up the front and found no excessive movement in the wheels, side to side or up down.
The car has done 70000 miles and the noise started all of a sudden, not gradually.
I used to get wheelspin on pulling away from a standing start or if I was over keen with the throttle in 2nd. So I changed the tyres the wheelspin stopped but then the clutch slipped instead, now I have this droning.
