This isn't a squeak. It is a loud creak that is so audible it echoes as you drive down a street with parked cars.
The only way I can describe it is like open and shutting a door with rusty hinges every time you hit a tiny bump. It is so bad I fear I will get pulled by the Police if I drove past them.
I have a friend/mechanic coming out in the next 30 minutes to try and do something with it. He is disgusted at the price they charged and the non-existent after service. He suspects they have used a real cheap part then marked it up 100-150%. The invoice has the part at £68+VAT.
Sounds like ARB bushes to me..
My JTS started making that sounds a few years ago.. after reading the forums I was convinced it was the uppers... so i bought some TRW's and replaced them.. feeling very proud of myself I took the car for a test drive.. and creeeaaaaakkkkkkk farcken
Well, i thought; Process of elimination..I again reviewed the forum and after much consideration and advice given, I'm convinced it has
to be the lowers... no worries.. bought new ones, this time had them fitted at a specialist... picked up car and....
CCCCCRRRRrrrreeeeaaaaak. sound like a door opening, on really bumpy roads it was more like a donky on heat.. the noise could be heard fo niles around.. my partner always knew i was home.. the 'ee or ee or ee eee clunck e eeeee' gave it away. (Think a couple of teenagers on a squeaky bed... and you'll get a good idea of the horrid noise it made)
So I scratched my head.. I'd replaced the drop links, the uppers, the lowers... I was told the ARB only ever made a knocking noise.. so it couldn't
So one day i decided to disconnect the droplinks.. which in essence disconnected the ARB.. and finally.. noise gone.
It was the ARB bushes all along.. so I went to the expense of having the whole thing replaced and now the car's perfect... has been ever since..
It was an expensive exercise. I remember my specialist telling me all along it was the ARb, but I didn't believe him.. After all the threads here telling me it's the uppers.. I ignored the guy who's ears on teh ground told him different. After all - how do you really communicate the nuance of various types of squeaks, creaks, vibrations, knocks or general metallic noises these cars make - on a forum? So all the advice was good intentioned, but without actually hearing the noise, what can anyone really do?
The upside was that by the end of it, the entire front end of my car was brand new
and still flawless which I love... I wish i could achieve the same with my GTA!
So if you have a mid frequency creak that seems to get worse with heat (which was what happened in my case.. It was a noisy summer.. ) then I'd be disconnected your droplinks and having a listen...
Edit: I really should read to the end of the thread before posting - nice to see you got it sorted and didn't faff around like i did.. moral of the story still stands.. sometimes that noise is the ARB.. and not the wishbones.
