new cat reqd ?

Car (1999 2.0 t/s) mot'd in December with an advise on the exhaust back box
exhaust very loud of late so had back box changed..still just as loud!!, exhaust place said cat sounds hollow ???
Anyone had a cat changed ?, exhaust place said ball-park figure £180
saw a link to supplier (ages ago) ceramic cat ? very reasonable price (£75 I think) also did a metal cat that was more expensive...
anyone know what difference a ceramic cat makes compared to a metal one ????
also would a knackered cat make the performance suffer much as car would probably be beaten by a milk float at the traffic light grand prix

Re: new cat reqd ?

Metal cats last longer.

Performance would go down if the cat matrix has collapsed.

Does it sound like a tin of nails when revved?

Don't forget, could also be the lexible bit on the front pipe

First pic on left

Costs about £70

Best thing to do is get someone to block the exhaust while you listen for any leaks.
