ECU problem??

I have a problem with my 1.8 ts ,every now and then(at least once a week) when i start the engine it wont hold the revs and just dies straight away, then after the third or forth attemp its fine.
The air flow meter has been changed,so it isnt that, the funny thing is when it happens i notice that when i put the ignition before starting the fuel gauge goes haywire and shows a full tank, then when turned off and back on again i get a more accurate fuel reading it starts fine.
To me it seems ecu related ,Is there any one else that can shed some light on this for me??

Re: ECU problem??

spotty ECU connectors maybe? i had some weird intermittent lambda errors that turned out to be dirty connectors on the ECU. cleaned those - both ECU and engine ends - and all was well.
