Well Happy Air con upgrade

Is it possible to buy an air con kit for the 156? Can I buy all the parts required from a breaker and install? has anyone ever done this? With a hot hot summer promised in Ireland, I am hopin this is possible.. anyone ever heard of anyone doing this? what are the main parts I will have to replace? someone mentioned radiator will also be involved in the changeout.

Re: Air con upgrade

I think you would need not only to get hold of all the parts in the engine bay: pipes, compressor, condensor, filter, auxiliary belt, etc. you would probably also need to replace the heater unit behind/inside the dashboard. Then there are all the electrics ...

You would probably be better off selling your 1.6 and buying a car with climate control already fitted as standard.

Have to go along with Gazza on this, as a recent article in a reliable mag said the same thing really. The amount of alterations/installation problems would make it a very difficult proposition:

Re: Air con upgrade

Alpin Air in Hanger Lane, London installed Air Con in my Fiat Barchetta about two years ago. As they had never done one on a Barchetta before it took longer than the estimate but the system worked perfectly afterwards. The can easily source the parts for an Alfa. It was pricey tho' £1,450 + VAT.
