Not if you don't plug them in, in which case you're no less safe than you are today. If your car has the loom and the airbag module can run them, there's no reason why you can't make them active - at which point you'll probably want a copy of DnECUScan or equivalent, and a cable from Rarebear, as there is a strong chance you'll get errors coming up as you play around with them, and it's easy to reset with those. Without them you'll need to find someone who has them, or pay a dealer to reset the airbag light, or you'll fail inspections.
Of course they may plug in and give no errors, so you'll be all good.
And yes, if it was the other way around (damn your fast fingers, Toxic) you have to put a resistor into the plug so it thinks your airbags are still there - not a problem for you.
