My Alfa GT is just over a week old and is a beaut.
However there is one problem that is causing me a little concern and that is the gearbox. All is sweetness thru' the box till I try to change from 5th to 6th gear. Sometime it slips in as easy as wink (pardon the expression) and sometimes it just will not engage gear. This does not matter whether the gearbox is cold or warmed through, and doesn't happen consistently - so am worried that a mechanic will say "well it was OK when I tried it" and then it will misbehave when I drive up the road!
Is this something that has happened to anyone else? Is the synchromesh at fault?
this is not meant as a joke but have you driven a six speeder before cos it took me a little while to get used to having that extra gear in there (I drive the wifes Z4 with six gears also), may be a little bit of user error here too.
Yeah I had that, not a great change is it! Tighter than the other changes. Also noticed reverse is never easy, goes with a crunch unless you leave a long delay (1 second) between depressing the clutch and changing gear.
But you do get used to it and I rarely don't find 6th first time now. Not sure if this is a build problem or just the design??
It is a very easy adjustment, there is a 13 mm nut on top of the gear box selector where the cables join the box, slacken the nut off and there are two plates that can be adjusted to get the gear change just right. If I knew how to upload a photo I would post a picture.
Ill hold my hands up!!! I have had a bit of a play and think I was dragging the gear stick inbetween 4th anf 6th on the first attemp therefopre making it difficult to get into 6th. I now put a bit of right pressure on the stick as im moving it to 6th and it drops right in...Donkey!!!!! Thanks for the info anyway chaps.
