No need to panic, these are standard things that can happen with any car.
Yes, it sounds like the PS pump is failing. Rather than get a new one, get a second-hand one from a low mile scrapper. It's a LOT cheaper. With fresh PS fluid added it will do the job nicely and save you plenty of money. ASk the garage if they can add some Forte PS renovating fluid too, that helps lubricate and prolong life.
What do you mean by dead space? Do you mean the pedal doesn`t do anything for the first part of it`s travel? If so then it does sound like some air in the system and you should get it checked and new fluid flushed through. That's not going to be expensive.
The brakes may well also need bleeding, especially if the clutch does. Rather than just bleeding them, completely flush the system through with fresh fluid which will only cost a few pounds more. At the same time that this is being done, have the brakes checked for wear as it might be that the pads are getting low.
Finally, don`t be so negative about your Alfa! If this is all that is wrong with it then it is no big deal
