Stupid question regarding suspension

Forgive me for asking questions like this (there may be more in the future)...but I'm assuming front upper/lower wishbones etc are completely different to dampers/shock absorbers?

The reason I ask is because I'm looking at sticking on koni/bilstein dampers and springs all round round to improve the ride and handling of my 147. It seems a little too harsh and crashy at the moment, the wheels just seem to fall into potholes, viciously vibrating the whole car on the more severe ones!

But if a wishbone or link or bush is knackered, that would counteract any benefit I get from fitting new dampers and springs, correct??

Previous Alfas:
GTV 3.0 V6
147 2.0TS
147 Selespeed
156 2.4 JTDm 20v Ti

Re: Stupid question regarding suspension

If a wishbone, drop link, bush, ball joint etc is knackered, you'll have to replace it no matter what. You certainly won't get the full benefit of the new dampers / springs if the rest of the suspension is knacked.
